On April 30, 2026, the second workshop of the FARMUP project took place at the Bovisa campus of the Politecnico di Milano. The event focused on key aspects related to the design and operation of vertical farming systems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Following the opening remarks by the Lombardy Federation of Agronomists and Forestry Doctors (ODAF), represented by Dr. Francesca Ossola, the workshop opened with presentations by members of the FARMUP project. Prof. Giacomo Cocetta, Dr. Simone Di Vito and Dr. Alessia Follador from the Department of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences at the Universit\u00e0 degli Studi di Milano presented the agronomic activities developed within the project. Prof. Simone Cinquemani then introduced the technological innovations applied in FARMUP.<\/p>\n\n\n

In the afternoon, two companies operating in the sector shared their experience. Representing Agricola Moderna, CFO and Co-Founder Dr. Benjamin Franchetti discussed the economic and agri-food aspects of vertical farming production. This was followed by a presentation from Aquaponic Design, where Co-Founder and CEO Dr. Francesco Lombardo and Co-Founder and CTO Andrea Casadio described the challenges their company faced in designing hydroponic and aeroponic systems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The workshop concluded with a guided tour of the vertical farming facility where the FARMUP project is being carried out. Participants had the opportunity to observe the technologies and experimental activities underway, including live demonstrations of hydroponic and aeroponic systems in operation.<\/p>\n\n\n
